Thank You and Happy New Year!

As 2012 comes to a close, I want to thank everyone for their support this year as I launched my sole proprietorship and started my first blog outside of Blogger and LiveJournal. I greatly appreciate every one of you who visited my website and blog, became a fan on Facebook, followed me on COLOURlovers, or connected with me on LinkedIn. I am also incredibly grateful for my friends and coworkers at Generac who continuously give me so much advice on life and business, which allows me to be an even better small business owner.

There will be some new changes and accomplishments in 2013 I’m excited to share, including:

  • A new responsive website design for Megan McDonald Art & Design coming soon
  • Two of my pattern designs, Mango Lemonade and Starlight, getting published in Sendpoints Books’ Classical Patterns and Modern Patterns
  • Joining and participating in a local art-affiliated group
  • Posting new designs and photos I made this year
  • Creating new work in a variety of mediums
(You can check out my latest pattern design, Black Celebration, available in several different products on Society6.)
  • Design tutorials and freebies

I hope you have a happy and healthy start to the New Year!

Earthrise

Yesterday I finished my 18 x 24 inch oil on canvas painting for the America SCORES Milwaukee Inspired Art event.

The poem that inspired it was The Earth by Carlos C., age 10:

Earth rise
Fills the skies
Across the void
Of space
It lies.

Sky delight
Blue and bright
Shining in the
Secret
Night.

The exhibition and auction will be held on the evening of Friday, November 9, at the Wherehouse on 818 South Water Street in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Tickets can be purchased here and are $45 each. $30 of the ticket price goes directly to supporting the children. The bidding starts at $100 for my painting, and 100% of the auction sale will benefit America SCORES.

Light the Night

On September 13, a handful of my teammates from Generac’s supply chain and I participated in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk. Some of you may have noticed the link I had posted here in August and the first few weeks of September, so I want to give everyone an update on my team’s very successful fundraiser:

I am proud to announce that we raised over $21,000, which is more than double our initial goal of $10,000. Generac raised the most money of all the participating companies with a total of over $80,000. I also exceeded my goal of $100, raising $152.47. On behalf of my team, I want to sincerely thank everyone who donated to this amazing cause.

I was honored to be chosen as the illustrator for my team’s banner. My lovely coworker, Sue, and I are actually standing in front of the Magnum light tower featured in my illustration.

I had a great time at the walk, despite the rain when we first arrived. Shortly before the walk started, the sun came out and a double rainbow appeared over Lake Michigan followed by a gorgeous sunset: the perfect ending for such an inspirational day.

America SCORES Featured Artist 2012

I am excited to announce that I will be one of this year’s featured artists for the Milwaukee affiliate of America SCORES. I was recently invited by the organization to participate, and I am looking forward to starting my piece for this event.

The America SCORES Inspired Art project takes poems produced by SCORES youth and asks artists to create one of a kind pieces inspired by their words. The project raises money so that important work and programming can continue to be offered to Milwaukee’s urban youth. There are so many awesome poems to choose from, and I finally have it narrowed down to a few favorites.

The exhibition and auction for the Inspired Art event will be held Friday, November 9, at the Wherehouse on 818 South Water Street in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

New Business Cards

A few months ago, I changed hosts for my website and decided to make the switch from megan-mcdonald.com to meganmcdonald.org. Along with the address change came the necessity for some new business cards.

COLOURlovers just happened to have a contest with the printing company 4by6.com last month for a portfolio pack pattern design. 4by6.com was generous enough to also offer a free portfolio pack per person with only the cost of shipping from a code found on the COLOURlovers blog. Instead of putting my efforts toward a pattern for the contest, I decided to focus my energy on creating a portfolio pack of my own.

My new business cards arrived yesterday, and I couldn’t be happier with them! They have a satin finish with just the right amount of shine, the colors were spot on, and they were trimmed perfectly.

To get a better idea of how the back of the card looks without the glare from the lighting, please visit the original portfolio post on my website.
