Advanced Style for Karen Walker

While I was browsing my favorite blogs this week, I was delighted to see that the ladies from Ari Seth Cohen’s Advanced Style were chosen for Karen Walker‘s Spring 2013 Forever Campaign.

Advanced Style showcases fashion-forward seniors who prove that personal style truly gets better with age. Ilona Royce Smithkin, Joyce Carpati, Linda Rodin, and Lynn Dell, who are regularly featured in the blog, were photographed in their New York homes by Cohen for this campaign. Their fearless, eccentric, and sophisticated style truly enhances Walker’s creative eyewear designs.

Top 10 Pantone Colors for 2013

Pantone was right on target with their prediction of Tangerine Tango becoming the most popular color of 2012. For 2013, it seems that its complementary color, Monaco Blue, will take its place, along with nine others inspired by Asian culture, 1950s vintage, and 1960s pop art.

These colors have already started to make an appearance in fashion and will surely continue to gain popularity in other design industries next year. I am excited to see how designers will utilize this color palette to create a sense of balance.

Here are Pantone’s top 10 predicted color trends for 2013 as seen in this year’s street style:

Marimekko S / S 2012

From their original patterns to bold colors, it’s no surprise that Finland’s Marimekko is one of my favorite brands.

The fragrance of spring’s first flowers. The sound of arrival and departure in the busy port. The colourful market, alive with smiling people, fresh vegetables, fish, seagulls. Long, leisurely hours spent with friends in cafés, parks, the nearby islands. Bike rides to the allotment garden to witness the miracle of growth. Moments of life in Helsinki…

Marimekko’s Spring / Summer 2012 collection has many beautiful ’60s and ’70s silhouettes, as well as trousers that are reminiscent of David Bowie’s iconic 1972 photoshoot with Masayoshi Sukita. I love how this collection playfully incorporates the mismatched prints trend by combining stripes with floral prints.
